Beginning in the early 2000s, members of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated -Delta Kappa Chapter at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (SIUE) began to petition the Illinois State Director and Great Lakes Regional Director to charter a local graduate chapter in Edwardsville, Illinois.
As of late 2007, their vision of establishing a chapter that embraced the founding principles of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated while continuously striving towards progression through modern and innovative ideas finally came to fruition as members were propositioned to charter a graduate chapter in Missouri.
At the recommendation of the State and Regional Directors for both Illinois and
Missouri, the Phi Nu Zeta Chapter was chartered on Monday, February 11, 2008 by the following seven women: Kiswai Broomfield, Jada Day, Melody Graves, Michelle
Greene, Regina Howard, DeAnna Johnson and Pamela Minner, all of whom received their undergraduate degrees from SIUE. Ecstatic with the chapter’s inception, the charter members coined themselves the “PHInatic” Phi Nu Zeta Chapter, which the members felt perfectly encapsulates their zeal to continue the work of Zeta in an area that displayed great need.These seven women were charged to establish a chapter that strives to complete progressive work within the areas of Florissant, Missouri and Saint Louis Metropolitan, which represents residents from the states of Illinois and Missouri.
Fortunately, this was a charge that the women of Phi Nu Zeta enthusiastically accepted, and since inception, the chapter continuously contributes to the betterment of the community by providing social, educational, political and cultural activities for the promotion of healthy living through the spirit of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood.
